Intelligent Control Algorithm Based on Fuzzy Logic for Level Control of a Conical Tank

The conical tanks, due to their conical shape, allow avoiding sedimentation and reduction of bacteria that frequently occur in conventional tanks. The level control of a conical tank is challenging due to its non-uniform shape. In this research, an algorithm based on fuzzy logic is designed and implemented for the level control of a conical tank at a laboratory scale. To evaluate the controller’s performance, it is compared with a traditional Proportional-Integral (PI) controller, analyzing settling time, overshoot, and steady-state error under different set points, and evaluating the system when subjected to disturbances. The results showed better performance of the fuzzy logic control in the transient state. Additionally, an interactive graphical interface is developed that allows experimenting with the dynamic response of the actual plant when implementing a fuzzy controller.
