First steps to create a data-driven culture in organizations. Case study in a financial institution.
The purpose of this article is to identify the practice of communicating with data as a central axis for the development of a data-driven culture in organizations. Currently, communicating using data through graphs and symbols is a daily practice in organizations that seek to obtain value from it to base their decisions, even in departments and among people who do not necessarily have statistical or mathematical knowledge. This article analyzes the behavior of the risk department of an organization that belongs to the Colombian financial system under the case study methodology, considering group literacy as the first step in the data communication activity. Subsequently, it is observed and deepened through in-depth interviews in relation to the change in the organizational practices of the group of leaders and managers of the organization. As a result of the study, the existence of a relationship between data-driven communication and organizational cultural practices is established through an experimental model for measuring data-driven culture. Although measuring data culture in an organization is not a task with a solid scientific basis yet, there are efforts aimed at measuring the analytical maturity of organizations under some development models, which seek to identify these capabilities. In conclusion, the study identifies a positive relationship between data communication and organizational cultural practices, contributing significantly to the development of a data-driven culture.
