Comparison of Charging and Discharging Behavior of Lithium-Ion Electric Batteries

This work focuses on analyzing and comparing the behavior of lithium-ion electric batteries during the charging and discharging processes, taking into account the degradation effects imposed by the repetition of these cycles. Various models of lithium-ion batteries found in the scientific literature are examined, and the model that directly relates the chemical formulation to the equivalent electrical circuit, along with the charging and discharging operation, as well as the battery degradation process, is selected. The model used is represented by integrating its state variables in both the MATLAB®tool and the graphical environment ATPDraw, using circuits, TACs, and MODELS language. The simulation results are compared with experimental measurements, and conclusions are drawn based on the obtained results.

Abstract

Various models of lithium-ion batteries found in the scientific literature are examined, and the model that directly relates the chemical formulation to the equivalent electrical circuit, along with the charging and discharging operation, as well as the battery degradation process, is selected. The model used is represented by integrating its state variables in both the MATLAB®tool and the graphical environment ATPDraw, using circuits, TACs, and MODELS language. The simulation results are compared with experimental measurements, and conclusions are drawn based on the obtained results.
