Evaluating the Antiparasitic in vitro killing Effects of Rosmarinus officinalisessential oil compared to Ethanol Concentrations on Demodex folliculorum.

Objective: This study assessed the efficacy of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil andethanol at different concentrations against Demodex folliculorum. There is a growingneed to develop alternative therapies for combating Demodex mites. Methods: The effects of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil and ethanol wereevaluated on separate groups of 100 Demodex folliculorum mites each. Theeffectiveness of these substances in eliminating the mites was measured over time todetermine their acaricidal activity.Result: The essential oil demonstrated rapid acaricidal activity, with 40% of the mitepopulation affected within 4 minutes, 75% within 5 minutes, and complete elimination(100%) achieved within 6 minutes. In contrast, ethanol at a 95% concentrationrequired 60 minutes to achieve 100% elimination. Ethanol at a 30% concentrationshowed no significant effects within the initial 240 minutes, indicating a considerablyslower action compared to Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil. These findingshighlight the superior speed and efficacy of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil ineliminating Demodex folliculorum
