Scientific thinking across the centuries and the foundations of physics
Abstract This paper discusses the sense in which physics can be seen, contrary to what is often stated, as a cumulative body of knowledge on Nature. Science, from this perspective, is the search for increasingly effective ways of organizing our experience, hence giving us the best available grasp on reality. The paper illustrates the continuity of science across the centuries by comparing the physics of motion of Aristotle and Newton.
