Bending space and time

Abstract Albert Einstein showed how gravity could best be represented by a curved spacetime. This paper discusses how this works out both in the case of cosmology and of black holes, and how it allows the possibility of travel to the past in principle (but not in practice). The observable universe and the inflationary universe are also considered.
