A STUDY OF COAGULATION PROFILE IN CANCER PATIENTS AT A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL IN INDIA
There is considerable evidence that thrombosis is a common complication of malignancy and represents the second most frequent cause of death in cancer patients. Clinically detectable venous thromboembolism (VTE) is present in 15% of all cancer patients and the number is likely to be higher when subclinical thromboembolism is taken into account. The present study was done to determine prevalence of coagulopathy in 100 histopathologically diagnosed cancer patients and to study the correlation between various types of cancers and thrombosis. A statistically signicant correlation was found between various cancer types and APTT, which helps to understand the complex relationship between cancer and coagulation disorders and to develop optimal strategies for preventing and managing thrombosis in cancer patients.
