Jets in cross-flow as wind barrier: Best performing cases and protection mechanism

The use of multiple jets in a cross-flow as wind barriers was proven in a previous study [Franco et al. (2022)]. This study continues the analysis by expanding the wind tunnel tests on twin jets in cross-flow configurations, providing a more detailed description of the leeward flow field of the jets and explaining the mechanism responsible for the good performance of the wind barrier. Hot-wire anemometer measurements were performed on a 324-node grid for 24 combinations of velocity ratios and distances between the jets. This study focuses on two cases characterized by their good performance as wind barriers.

Abstract

The use of multiple jets in a cross-flow as wind barriers was proven in a previous study [Franco et al. (2022)]. This study continues the analysis by expanding the wind tunnel tests on twin jets in cross-flow configurations, providing a more detailed description of the leeward flow field of the jets and explaining the mechanism responsible for the good performance of the wind barrier. Hot-wire anemometer measurements were performed on a 324-node grid for 24 combinations of velocity ratios and distances between the jets. This study focuses on two cases characterized by their good performance as wind barriers.
