Remark on a promising subtraction readout for pixelated CZT detectors

Abstract A new method is presented to improve the spectral performance in pixelated CZT detectors which have large ratios of pixel size to thickness. The concept is using the subtraction signal of adjacent pixels to closely emulate the function of coplanar configuration. This short note is devoted to a discussion of this promising way. The principle and associated electronics of subtraction readout are introduced. The feasibility of this method was investigated by using a self-developed simulation platform. The preliminary experimental results showed that this method can significantly improve the energy resolution of pixelated CZT detectors with large ratios of pixel size to thickness.
