THE EVALUATION OF HEMATOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN CHRONIC LIVER DISEASE PATIENTS
BACKGROUND: Chronic liver diseases frequently are associated with hematological abnormalities. Anaemia occurs in about 75% of patients with chronic liver disease. Chronic and excessive alcohol ingestion is one of the major causes of liver disease. This study studies the correlation between abnormalities in hematological & biochem AIMS & OBJECTIVE: ical parameters and severity of alcoholic liver disease. The study was conducted over a period of 18 months, from Ja METHODS AND MATERIALS: nuary 2022 to June 2023 in Madhubani Medical College, Madhubani, Bihar after obtaining the institutional and ethical committee clearance. In this study, 90 alcoholic patients with or without radiologic and/or clinical evidence of cirrhosis were studied and then evaluated to identify the role of various biochemical, hematological parameters. The mean Hb, RBC count, Protein, Albumin & MCHC were sign RESULTS: ificantly decreased while the mean MCV, lymphocyte count, Total and Direct Bilirubin, SGOT & SGPT were significantly increased in ALD patients ('P' value < 0.05). There were no significant changes in renal function test parameters. Higher values of MCV, l CONCLUSION: ymphocytes and bilirubin have independent role of positive association with the complications developed in the ALD. Early evaluation and management of these easily available parameters are more appropriate in prevention of development of complications among ALD cases.
