The Importance of IT Risk Assessments in Mitigating Risks: A Comparative Analysis of Standards and Supporting Technologies
Information Technology (IT) risk assessments have emerged as critical components for the protection of organizational assets in an increasingly interconnected digital environment. With the growing complexity of IT systems and the proliferation of cybersecurity threats, IT risk assessments are essential for identifying vulnerabilities, mitigating potential impacts, and ensuring business continuity. This paper examines the importance of IT risk assessments in mitigating risks and provides a comparative analysis of how various international standards, including ISO 27001, NIST, and COBIT, define and guide IT risk assessment processes. Additionally, it highlights how technologies like OneTrust and SAP Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) can support and enhance these efforts. This analysis provides a foundation for organizations seeking to improve IT risk management strategies by leveraging both industry frameworks and modern technological solutions.
