Cover Feature: Tracking Microenvironmental Response on Self‐Assembled Phthalocyanine Systems – Adaptive and Non‐Adaptive Antibacterial Photosensitization (Chem. Eur. J. 62/2024)
Many porphyrinoid-based photosensitizers experience aggregation-induced quenching, reducing their activity. However, in some cases, their photodynamic activity is restored after incubation with cells. To better understand these changes, we examined how self-assembled phthalocyanine derivatives behave in biological media. By analyzing fluorescence lifetime decay in the presence of molecular crowders and bacterial strains, we found that some derivatives exhibited adaptive activity changes, while others remained unchanged.
