Evaluation of health outcomes and quality of life in neurosarcoidosis

Introduction
Sarcoidosis is a complex multisystemic inflammatory disorder which can cause deterioration in quality of life (QoL). Currently there are no studies that systematically examine the main contributing factors of QoL outcomes in neurosarcoidosis. This study aimed to explore the impact on QoL in adults diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis.
Method
Patient reported outcomes and demographics were collected through questionnaires. Data collection tools included EDSS, EQ-5D-5L, WHOQOL-BREF, WHODAS 2.0, Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS) and the Cognitive Failures Questionnaire (CFQ).
Results
Data from 32 respondents were collected between February to November 2023. The mean age was 54 (SD: 10), 17 (53.%) were female, 14 (44%) were working. Median EDSS: 0-4.0. EQ-5D-5L mean 0.591 (SD:0.241) and EQVAS mean 58.3 (SD: 17.7). WHOQOL-BREF physical domain mean 46.3 (SD: 11). The WHODAS 2.0 36-item mean 2.2 (SD: 0.8) and 32- item mean 2.5 (SD: 0.8). Respondents reported experiencing fatigue (FAS: 66% mean: 30, SD: 8) and cognitive impairment (CFQ mean: 42.5, SD: 27.2 n=26).
Conclusion
Our study examines the impact of neurosarcoidosis on activities of daily living. The findings underscore the broad impact of neurosarcoidosis on QoL, disability, fatigue and cognition. Evaluation of novel treatments and service development in neurosarcoidosis requires routine measurement of patient reported outcomes.
