IoT Based Wastewater Dissolved Oxygen and Total Dissolved Solids Monitoring with Data Analytics
This study aims to integrate Internet of Things (IoT) into wastewater monitoring processes for an enhanced realtime monitoring through data analytics and visualisation. This paper demonstrates the design and development of a mini IoT wastewater prototype. The prototype is developed to perform spatial and temporal data collection of the wastewater’s attributes, i.e., dissolved oxygen (DO) and total dissolved solids (TDS). The collected DO and TDS data will then be transmitted and stored in the Cloud database for analytic purposes. A notable feature of this study is the analytical dashboard that is able to analyse the wastewater’s DO and TDS, and subsequently propose suitable treatments to improve the DO and TDS level to a desirable state. The dashboard also visualises all critical information meaningfully through data plotting and graphing. This study has successfully proven the potential practicability of real-time wastewater monitoring, analytics and visualisation to be applied into an operational environment.
