Auditing Your Electrical Safety Management Program: A Method to Identify Key Gaps in Electrical Safety at Your Site

Auditing is a critical element of an electrical safety program. This paper explores the use of auditing as an essential element of any safety program. Auditing provides the means to understand performance versus established standards. Auditing identifies key gaps in electrical safety for reducing fatalities and injuries. To have an effective electrical safety program, an auditing process must be an integral element of it. Sixty nine percent of electrical injuries are to non electrical related occupancies exposed to electrical hazards. An electrical safety program includes not only safe work practices for electrical workers but also for nonelectrical occupancies exposed to electrical hazards. Review may include highlighting to customer of any noninclusive and potentially offensive language in documents. This paper discusses the incorporation, process, and benefits of auditing as a key element in an electrical safety management program.
