Editorial Report 2024 from the Editor-in-Chief of Herpetology Notes

The journal is currently supported by an Editorial Team of 50 that includes three copyeditors, three layout editors, and numerous Associate Editors. While the average time to first decision on submissions has now reached an all-time low of only 26 days, time to final acceptance has increased to 188 days. The reason for this is that our review process has become more stringent to ensure high-quality production, while some authors find it difficult to adhere to basic journal standards.Insistence on quality has also meant that our rejection rate has almost doubled since 2022, to 35%.There is now some increased competition in the market, with Reptiles & Amphibians now also available as an indexed open-access journal, but our increased number of submissions (15% more than 2022) proves our competitiveness even while we charge a minimal publication fee (the lowest in the market at the moment of those journals with such fees). We received well over 1000 article views per month on average, showing that we reach our audience.
