Repräsentation und own voices Literatur im (Fremd-)Sprachenunterricht
<by:p>Neurodiversity is a dimension of heterogeneity rarely considered in textbooks (ALTER 2019; ALTER/KÖNIG/MERSE 2021; ALTER/KÖFFLER 2021). We discuss the potential of texts written by neurodivergent people, i.e. own voices literature, for the EFL classroom, drawing on the notion of epistemic justice (LEGAULT/BOURDON/POIRIER 2021) and own voices literature as education about as well as for the other (KUMASHIRO 2000). Moreover, these texts are relevant for FLT in light of their potential contributions to discourse competence (HALLET 2008) and ability to widen the scope of what may be considered successful communication. With Nelson Beats the Odds (SIDNEY/VAN WAGONER 2015), we discuss ways in which a specific own voices text might be utilized for teaching English in the middle grades.</by:p>
