Efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen combined with transurethral bladder electrocoagulation in the treatment of radiation cystitis hematuria

To evaluate the clinical efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen combined with transurethral bladder electrocoagulation in the treatment of radiation cystitis hematuria and further explore its impact on urodynamic parameters. A total of 80 patients with radiation cystitis hematuria from January 2018 to December 2023 were selected as the research objects. According to the random number table method, the patients were randomly divided into a control group (n = 40) and an observation group (n = 40). The control group underwent transurethral bladder electrocoagulation alone, while the observation group underwent hyperbaric oxygen combined with transurethral bladder electrocoagulation. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was evaluated 12 months after treatment. The number and color of gross hematuria episodes, urodynamic parameters [maximum bladder capacity (MBC), maximum flow rate (Qmax), and maximum voiding pressure (MVP)], and the severity of bladder activity symptoms [Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS)] were compared between the two groups before treatment and at 1 month after treatment. Adverse reactions during treatment and follow-up were also recorded for both groups. The observation group had a significantly higher total effective rate (92.50%) compared to the control group (75.00%) (P < 0.05). Both groups experienced a reduction in hematuria episodes and severity, but the observation group had lower hematuria scores (P < 0.05). Post-treatment, increases in MBC and Qmax and a decrease in MVP were more pronounced in the observation group (P < 0.05). Additionally, symptoms like urinary frequency, urgency, and incontinence improved more in the observation group (P < 0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was similar between the groups, with no severe complications reported. Combining HBO with TBE is a safe and effective treatment for radiation cystitis hematuria, significantly improving bladder function and reducing urinary symptoms. This combined therapy is recommended for clinical use.
