Effect of non-linear periodization training program on physical fitness and athletic performance in professional rowers
The purpose of this study is to establish a training program tailored to the competition and physical fitness level of domestic rowers. The periodization training program was analyzed by three training experts based on data reported by the Australian Rowing Association and a non-linear periodization training program was developed considering the domestic competition schedule. The subjects of this study were 7 professional rowers, and their basic physical strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, anaerobic power, and isokinetic strength were measured three times 3 weeks before the start of major competitions (January, June, October). As a result of the training, the rowers’ back strength and cardiorespiratory endurance were improved, but there was no improvement in isokinetic muscular strength and anaerobic power. Therefore, the customized non-linear periodization training program constructed in this study had a positive effect on improving aerobic stamina and endurance of domestic rowers, but did not induce improvements in muscle strength and muscle power.
