Microwave-Assisted Synthesis, Characterization, And Investigation Of Potentially Bioactive 4-Hydroxy-2H-Chromen-2-One Derivatives
Microwaves as a source of energy to synthesize heterocyclic compounds by condensing 4-hydroxycoumarin, 2-mercaptobenzimidazole, and aromatic aldehydes to produce the corresponding 4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one derivatives in excellent yields in 6 to 11 minutes. The microwave-assisted method significantly outperforms traditional heating techniques by providing higher yields and shorter reaction times. Coumarins and their derivatives are notable for their diverse biological and pharmacological properties, making them an important class of heterocyclic compounds. Good generality was shown by the catalytic reaction, which was compatible with aldehydes containing electron-withdrawing groups. Newly synthesized compound structures were characterized by spectroscopic data (¹H and ¹³C NMR, IR, and MS) and elemental analysis.
