A Study on the Analysis of the Semantic Structure of Explanatory Texts Using LCT -Focusing on Science and History Texts

This paper aims to linguistically analyze the semantic structure of explanatory texts, focusing on "explanation," which is a core educational content of the Korean language and is important as a learning language. Since explanations differ in their purpose, target, nature, and method depending on the characteristics of the subject, the Korean language education should be able to provide explanation-related language resources that reflect the subject-specific characteristics. To achieve this, the concept of the "semantic wave" from Legitimation Code Theory (LCT), a sociological approach to knowledge, was employed to analyze the semantic structure and knowledge construction methods of explanatory texts. The analysis revealed distinctive patterns in the fields of science and history, particularly in terms of 1) conceptualization and reconceptualization, 2) concept connection, and 3) concept deconstruction. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to diversifying the methods of text analysis in Korean language education by applying LCT.
