EFFECTIVENESS OF SELF INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING UMBILICAL VEIN CATHETERIZATION AMONG NURSING STUDENTS

Background of the study: Umbilical vessel catheterization was rst described by Diamond in 1947 for an exchange transfusion in a neonate. Umbilical vessel catheterization serves many important functions in the ill neonate. umbilical vein catheterization is the preferred procedure for the infant in shock and in need of rapid resuscitation. For decades, thoraco-abdominal radiograph (TAR) has been used to assess the position of the catheter's tip, but over the past few years ultrasonography has been suggested as the gold standard technique since it is safe, fast, and more accurate. Umbilical Venous Catheterization (UVC) is a life-saving procedure at neonatal intensive care units in neonates who require vascular access and resuscitation. The nurse has a vital role in increasing the usable life span and minimizing the catheter associated complications. Objective: To assess Effectiveness of Self Instructional Module on Knowledge Regarding Umbilical Vein Catheterization among Nursing students. Methodology: A Pre-Experimental, one group pre-test post-test design will be used. 100 Nursing students will be selected by Selected Nursing College through Non probability convenience sampling technique. Self-structured knowledge questionnaire will be used for the study. After the pretest administration, Self instructional Module will be delivered to the Students.the Post-test will be conducted on 7 day. Content validity and reliability of the Tool will be carried out by experts of the concerned. The collected data will be analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Expected Results: There will be signicant difference in pre and post-test knowledge score among students. Conclusion: This study ndings contribute to the existing body of knowledge on Umbilical Vein Catheterization among Nursing Students and shed light on the effectiveness of Self instructional Module in improving knowledge of Umbilical Vein Catheterization and empower them to deliver effective Nursing care to neonate undergone Umbilical vein catheterization. Ultimately, the outcomes of this study enhance the capacity of Nursing students to provide best quality nursing care.
