Resilience and Reliability of Solar-Powered Microgrids in Disaster-Prone Areas

Microgrids powered by solar energy are small-scale energy systems that use solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to produce electricity. Microgrids offer a decentralized energy solution in contrast to typical power grids, which depend on a centralized power supply and a substantial transmission infrastructure. Microgrids can function independently or in tandem with the main grid. "Islanding," the capacity to operate independently, is especially useful in disaster-prone places where centralized infrastructure is susceptible to destruction. A microgrid that runs on solar electricity needs a few key parts. Solar photovoltaic panels generate electricity from sunshine. The majority of appliances utilize alternating current (AC), which is created by inverters from direct current (DC) generated by the solar panels. Batteries are the most common type of energy storage equipment used to store extra energy produced during sunny hours for usage at night or in gloomy conditions. Control systems oversee the movement and distribution of power, guaranteeing smooth operation and achieving a balance between supply and demand.
