Algorithm for Classification of Dangerous Weather Phenomena “Rainfall-Thunderstorm-Hail“ in the Airfield Mobile Weather Radar Complex

Dangerous weather phenomena associated with cumulonimbus clouds pose a serious threat to air traffic safety. Modern criteria for classifying dangerous weather phenomena, which have shortcomings, are based on data on the altitude distribution of atmospheric radar reflectivity and air temperature. The article proposes an innovative algorithm for classifying weather phenomena such as rainfalls, thunderstorms and hail associated with cumulonimbus clouds. The presented algorithm assumes knowledge of the statistical characteristics of the distribution of maximum values of atmospheric reflectivity and turbulence by amplitudes and altitudes for rainfalls, thunderstorms and hail in cumulonimbus clouds, and the classification of dangerous weather phenomena is based on a single selected criterion for distinguishing statistical hypotheses. Taking into account statistical information on the spatial and temporal distribution of atmospheric turbulence and reflectivity based on the selected criterion for distinguishing statistical hypotheses will improve the validity and reliability of the classification.
