Super Wideband Spearhead-Shaped Planar Antenna for EMC Testing and Radio Frequency Surveillance
This paper presents an experimental investigation on the performance characteristics of a super wideband (SWB) spearhead-shaped planar antenna designed for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and radio frequency surveillance applications. The proposed antenna features compact dimensions of $40 \mathrm{~mm} \times 50 \mathrm{~mm}$ and a broad operating bandwidth spanning from the frequency of 3.66 GHz to 43.5 GHz, making it a suitable candidate for various wireless communication systems. The low return loss value of proposed antenna over the entire frequency range of interest indicates its potency as a wideband sensor for EMC testing and radio frequency surveillance. The experimental investigation of antenna performance in EMC testing from the frequency of 1 GHz to 6 GHz demonstrates its ability to effectively detect emissions from devices under test that operate in the frequency bands of 2.4 GHz, 4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz. In addition, the proposed antenna is successfully implemented in radio frequency surveillance application, where it is capable of detecting the utilized frequency spectrum from the frequency of 1 GHz to 6 GHz in an environment encompassing aeronautical and satellite radionavigation, radiolocation, and fixed-and-mobile communication services, showing a good level of sensitivity. Keywords-Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing; radio frequency surveillance; super wideband (SWB) antenna; wideband sensor.
