Systematic “Apple‐to‐Apple” Comparison of Single‐Crystal and Polycrystalline Ni‐Rich Cathode Active Materials: From Comparable Synthesis to Comparable Electrochemical Conditions
Layered Oxide Cathodes This cover illustrates a systematic and “fair” comparison of the conventional polycrystal (PC)-based Li[NixMnyCoz]O2 (NMC) with the single crystal (SC)-based NMC. In article number 2400119, Johannes Kasnatscheew and co-workers show that both cathode types are synthesized from identical precursors and their cycle life is compared with those of similar initial state-of-charge. Although the latter requires an even higher cutoff voltage for SC-NMC, the cycle life is indeed proven to be superior.
