Changes in body composition in patients with ischaemic heart disease and post-COVID-19 syndrome.

Introduction: Patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome report fatigue and muscle weakness. Ischaemic heart disease (IHD) alters blood flow to the myocardium. Alterations in body composition with comorbidities are associated with increased mortality. However, body composition alterations in patients with IHD and post-COVID-19 syndrome remain unknown. Objective: To determine the alterations in body composition in patients with IHD and post-COVID-19 syndrome. Methods: Cross-sectional study, patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome hospitalised during the acute phase were included, those who died before post-COVID-19 follow-up were excluded. Body composition was assessed by electrical bioimpedance, hand grip strength was determined with a dynamometer and sarcopenia was defined according to EWGSOP2. Results: 528 patients were evaluated, age was 54.6±13.5 years, 39.9% female. Patients with IHD had more lung disease (41.8% vs 25.2%, p=0.018). Regarding body composition, those with IHD had lower strength (19.7±10.0 vs 24.3±9.7, p=0.02), phase angle (5.4±1.2 vs 6.0±1.6, p=0.036), higher dynapenia (57.1% vs 38.4%, p=0.018) and sarcopenia (64.3% vs 47.6%, p=0.038). Discussion: The coexistence of IHD and post-COVID-19 syndrome decreases the quality and quantity of muscle mass and increases fat mass, reduced quality of life and worse prognosis. Concusion: IHD and post-Covid-19 syndrome had significant alterations in body composition. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA307/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
