Late Breaking Abstract - Infodemiology in lung transplantation and access to transplant programs worldwide: inequalities in latin america

Background: In the era of big data, infodemiology allows identifying the distribution of information determinants in electronic media to inform public health. Google Trends (GTr) enables monitoring web activity, identifying topics, and predicting behavior in health-related phenomena. Objective: To determine search trends over time and interest by region regarding lung transplantation (LT), as well as related queries. Methods: This is an observational, descriptive study using GTr with the term "lung transplant" from 2013 to 2023. The average relative search volumes (RSVs) were analyzed along with a qualitative analysis, in Latin America, and in countries with access to LT (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica) and without access to LT (others). Results: There is a global upward trend from 2013 (RSVs 44) to 2023 (RSVs 52), as well as in Latin America, with higher RSVs in countries with access to LT. The RSVs in Ecuador is <10 points versus Argentina (≈40 points). Ecuador is among the top 5 countries with the highest RSVs. Regarding related queries, globally, there is a specific increase in topics such as COVID-19, "vape", "Nicki Lauda", CLAD. In Ecuador, related queries include "when it is needed", "first lung transplant", "lung function". In contrast, in Argentina, the analysis reveals queries about COPD, "Puma Rodríguez", and specific topics. Conclusions: The current data would allow establishing topics that the population is interested in knowing, preventing misinformation, through social media, and regional scientific societies.
