Follow-up of patients with interstitial progressive lung diseases treated with Nintedanib.

ILDs are a heterogeneous group of diseases, with different degrees of fibrosis and inflammation. A subgroup may, throughout their evolution, present a progressive fibrosing(PPF), which is characterized by a clinical and radiological worsening and pulmonary function loss. Nintedanib, an antifibrotic treatment, has been approved for this disease. The objective is to analyze the patient to whom said treatment has been indicated and their evolution. Methods: A multicenter and prospective study had been carried out, of patients diagnosed with PPF who have been prescribed Nintedanib from 10 hospitals in Andalucia between July/21 and March/23. Results: 145 patients have been included, being 80 men (55.17%). The average age is 66.6 years and the mean time of evolution of the disease was 5.75 years. Figure 1 represents the underlying disease. 97 patients (66.9%) had previously taken corticosteroids and 28 (28.86%) of them reduced doses. Corticosteroids werent started after starting antifibrotics. In addition to corticosteroid, other immunosuppressions was taken in 65 patients (44.8%) (39% Mycophenolate). The evolution of functional tests and hospital admissions is shown in Figure 2. 43 (29.7%) presented side effects, diarrhea being the most common. The average time of use of Nintedanib is 9.5 months. Conclusions: The profile of patients with PPF who have benefited from Nintedanib is similar in both sexes, with a more frequent diagnosis of secondary connective tissue disease and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Nintedanib prescription is in line with the new indication, and its use, reduces hospital admissions and slows the decline in lung function confirming the results obtained in clinical trials.
