Multi-morbidity in Type 2 Disease: A Patient and Providers Survey

Type 2 inflammation (T2I) is associated with multiple conditions including asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), chronic urticaria (CU), atopic dermatitis/eczema (AD) and eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE); patients are diagnosed with more than one T2I condition. A 2023 survey evaluated patients diagnosed with 2 or more T2I diseases (n=641) and healthcare providers (HCPs; N=549) to determine their perception of multimorbidity in T2I. The survey was conducted by Dynata and promoted by GAAPP partners in the US, UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. Half (52%) of the patient respondents reported being treated by 1-2 HCPs for their T2 diseases but only 46% reported discussing the connection between these diseases. In contrast, most HCPs (72%) reported frequently discussing the connection. About a third of patients reported initial diagnosis by a primary care provider, especially those with asthma, AD and CU (Figure, left panel). The time to diagnosis reported by patients was notably short; one-third reported a diagnosis within 1 week or less and a small percentage reported a diagnostic delay of 1 year or more (Figure, right panel). Conclusion: Perceptions of T2-related multimorbidity burden differed between the surveyed populations of patients and HCPs. In some individuals, the delayed time to diagnosis suggests a need for improved awareness and better coordination of care delivery that address common aspects of T2 inflammatory diseases. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA731/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
