Rate of adherence to the ESC2021cardiovascular prevention targets in OSA: an interim analysis.
Background: OSA is a risk factor for CV diseases. However, up-to-date data about the adherence to ESC treatment goals in patients with OSA according to their CV risk status are scarce. We aimed to estimate the CV risk according to the 2021 ESC guidelines in patients with OSA and to assess the fulfilment of treatment goals according to their CV risk status. Methods: We enrolled consecutive patients with a new diagnosis of OSA. We performed structured CV risk estimation and calculated the Systematic COronary Evaluation-2 (SCORE2) and SCORE-older persons (SCORE-OP). We recorded OSA-related variables. For each patient, we checked the fulfilment of the ESC treatment goals for CV disease prevention. Results: We included 76 patients. Among them, 52 patients (68.4%) were classified as having a high or very high 10-year CV risk, as per the 2021 ESC guidelines (Figure). Increased OSA severity correlated with a higher CV risk. Less than 5% of patients achieved all ESC treatment goals. Optimal blood pressure levels were observed in only one-third of patients, while less than 10% reached optimal LDL cholesterol levels. Conclusion: Although CV is known to be high in OSA patients, achieving optimal CV prevention is an unmet need. Our preliminary findings underscore the imperative of addressing modifiable risk factors in both primary and secondary care in patients with OSA. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA860/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
