Efficient validation process of architecture designs based on customer needs for earth observation constellation satellite systems

In Model-Based System Engineering implement of validation method is important for the system architecture design phase. In general, the analysis method for multiple systems, compared to the analysis method implemented for a single system, has the problem that the number of iterations and the amount of calculation required for physical analysis in order to analyze architectural trade-offs. In the architecture design of an Earth observation satellite system in order to confirm that the needs of the customer user (observation area, observation deadline, cost) are satisfied, the system cofigurations (ground station, data, power, and attitude components) are designed, and the operational scenario (time and order of function execution) is calculated by time sequence analysis, for example, orbit analysis. In the operational scenario, since the satellite system has the performance limit of the component (data, power, attitude maneuver ability) that causes the postponement of observation, the time sequence analysis is iteratively performed for each system configuration to confirm whether the customer needs (observation deadline) are satisfied. Furthermore, when it comes to constellation satellite, which is a system of systems, the conventional method for a single satellite requires more iterations and more calculations for analysis to search for a valid solution. And the more satellites there are, the more serious the challenge becomes. This paper presents an example of an efficient architecture design method that reduces the computational complexity and number of iterations of analysis by establishing the sequence of analysis steps and tools for analysis in validating the architecture design of a system of systems with multiple attribute constraints.
