Relationship between the Severe Asthma Questionnaire and the EQ-5D-5L for health-related quality of life in the SHARP CRC registry

Abstract

RATIONALE: The Severe Asthma Questionnaire (SAQ) provides insight into patients' perceptions of severe asthma. However, policy makers often prefer preference-based measures (PBMs) such as the EuroQol-5D-5L (EQ-5D-5L) to estimate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for use in economic evaluations. AIM: To explore the relationships of the SAQ total and subscales with the EQ-5D-5L index value and dimensions. Methods: This study includes real-word data of 222 patients (57% female, mean age 54(SD 14) years, 79% on biologics, mean Asthma Control Questionnaire-6 (ACQ6) score 1.6 (SD 1.3), mean SAQ score 5.1 (SD 1.6) from the Severe Heterogeneous Asthma Research collaboration Patient-centred (SHARP) registry. Relationships between the SAQ total score and subscales (my life, impact on life activities; my mind, emotional impact; my body, impact on extra-pulmonary symptoms and side effects) and the EQ-5D-5L index value and dimensions (UK value set with 5 dimensions: mobility; self-care; usual activities; pain/discomfort; anxiety/depression) were assessed by rank correlation. Results: We observed moderate to strong relationships of the SAQ total and subscales with the EQ-5D-5L, especially with the index value and usual activities domain. CONCLUSION: The SAQ seems to be a good candidate for mapping to the preference-based EQ-5D-5L for use in economic evaluations. FUNDING: SHARP CRC, RAPSODI <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA2159/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
