Application of 20 nanometer bacterial cellulose in the inhibition of airway inflammation in asthma
Asthma is an airway disease, characterized by airway inflammation, airway hyper -responsiveness, and mucus hypersecretion. The increase of inflammatory factors after receiving antigen stimulation is a common symptom of asthma. 20 nanometer bacterial cellulose (BC) is a biomaterial synthesized by Acetobacter genus. It has good water solubility, biocompatibility and other characteristics. BC has been used as a wound dressing and has been proven to have good anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. But there have been no reports of such biomaterials being used in airway diseases. We have validated the biosafety of BC through in vitro and in vivo experiments. We establish in vitro asthma model with house dust mite (HDM) treatment and explored whether BC could can prevent the occurrence and development of asthma by inhibiting airway epithelial type 2 inflammation. We found that BC has good biosafety and it can inhibit inflammation by reducing the expression of IL-4 mRNA.
