Clinicopathological features and prognostic factors in patients with pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma

Introduction: This study aims to describe clinicopathological features and prognostic factors in patients with surgically treated pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma(PPC). Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 88 PPC patients were included. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to determine independent predictive factors. Results: The mean survival of patients was 16.2 months, with a 5-year survival rate of 36%. Adjuvant chemotherapy (HR=0.40, CI:0.21–0.80, p=0.009), lymphovascular invasion (HR=2.26,CI:1.15–4.44,p=0.018), and spindle cell carcinoma as a predominant cancer type (HR=3.09,CI:1.55–6.15, p=0.001) were found to be independent predictors of mortality. TNM stage 2 was observed to have lower survival compared to stage 1 (HR=2.97, CI:1.03-8.55, p=0.04), and stage 3 to stage 2 (HR=3.50, CI:1.23-9.99, p=0.019). Conclusion: Lymphovascular invasion, spindle cell carcinoma as a predominant cancer type, and advanced-stage disease were identified as poor prognostic factors, while performing adjuvant chemotherapy was found to be associated with improved survival for surgically treated patients with PPC. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA2418/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig> <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA2418/F2</object-id><object-id>F2</object-id><object-id>F2</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
