“Comprehending the role of Adipocytokines: Leptin, Visfatin, and IL-6 in Chronic Obstructive airway disease and Diabetes mellitus."

TITLE: “Comprehending the role of Adipocytokines: Leptin, Visfatin, and IL-6 in Chronic Obstructive airway disease and Diabetes mellitus. INTRODUCTION: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) relies heavily on inflammation. Inflammation is increasingly being implicated in the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). AIM: We investigated the adipocytokines Leptin, Visfatin, and IL-6 genes in COPD-induced T2DM patients, as well as the impact of polymorphisms on their levels. METHODOLOGY: We enrolled COPD, COPD with T2DM, and healthy individuals from the institution using standard criteria. Furthermore, we collected a blood sample and performed genotypic analysis and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. We enrolled 500 people in this study, including 250 controls, 191 COPD-patients, including 59 people who have COPD with type 2 diabetes. The leptin (C/T), visafitin (C/G), and IL-6 (C/T) polymorphisms were genotyped. Results: Serum levels of leptin, visafitin, and IL-6 were considerably greater (P < 0.001) in COPD patients with diabetes compared to healthy individuals. The genotype frequency of the "CT" leptin gene variant was substantially related with the likelihood of getting COPD by 3.7 times, but not with the development of T2DM in COPD. Whereas genotype 'TT' was substantially related with the probability of developing T2DM in COPD patients by 2.4 times. It reveals that those with genotype 'TT' are more likely to acquire COPD, as well as type 2 diabetes. CONCLUSION: We conclude that genotypes ‘TT’ of leptin, ‘GG’visafitin, and ‘TT’ of IL-6 may be exploited as biomarkers for the prognosis and diagnosis of T2DM in COPD and COPD,
