EFFECTIVENESS OF 4-WEEK REHABNURSINGASTHMA CONSULTATION ON ASTHMA CONTROL AND QUALITY OF LIFE

Introduction: Asthma necessitates patient-centered intervention. This study evaluates the impact of structured rehabilitation nursing consultations on asthma control and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Methods: A randomized controlled trial included 102 adult asthma patients from family health units in northern Portugal. The experimental group received four rehabilitation nursing consultations comprising breathing exercises, patient-centered education, and inhaled technique revision. The control group received standard nursing care for asthma management. Both groups underwent baseline and post-intervention assessments using CARAT and AQLQ-M. Results: The intervention group demonstrated statistically significant improvement in asthma control (p=0.032), with a mean increase of 5.2±6.5 in CARAT score, compared to the control group (2.3±5.8). Regarding HRQoL, the intervention group exhibited a significant improvement (p=0.032) of 0.9±1.0 in AQLQ, surpassing the control group (0.4±1.0). Conclusion: This study highlights the significant enhancement of asthma control and HRQoL through a 4-week rehabilitation nursing consultation in adults. Further research is needed to explore long-term effects and cost-effectiveness.
