Advancing TB education in Ukraine: virtual technologies for CME amid challenges

Introduction: The National TB Hub (NTH), a continuous medical education (CME) provider, has played a vital role in adapting and expanding TB training amid COVID-19 and war. Supported by the PATH-led USAID’s “Support TB Control Efforts in Ukraine” project (STBCEU), the NTH utilized technology to broaden TB training beyond DR-TB, enhancing quality and scope. Objective: The NTH aimed to enhance TB training quality and maintain educational continuity through virtual technologies, while navigating external challenges. Methods: With STBCEU support, the NTH launched a virtual training platform and improved access with platform-enabled video lessons, homework, tests, and interactive features. NTH’s CME certification allows it to offer state-recognized certifications to health care workers, ensuring training continuity and recognition. Results: From 2021 to 2024, NTH issued 10,677 training completion certificates. Training topics now cover DR-TB management, differential diagnosis, side effects, and more, and trainings utilize both the virtual platform for broader reach given pandemic/war-related travel restrictions and in-person options for practical skills. Conclusions: NTH effectively delivered TB training despite challenges, showing how technologies can advance CME and expand access to provide a sustainable health care education model in challenging settings. NTH will extend its impact through donor support and paid events. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA2581/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
