Inflammatory profile of COPD reached by hypertension

Introduction: High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worlwide, and it is known that Hypertension (HTA) is linked to chronique inflammation. Previous data revealed that HTA is more common in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. It appears that the systemic inflammation of COPD favors the development of hypertension. This study aimed to explore the inflammatory profile of COPD patients with hypertensive. Methods: Ninety-four male patients with COPD (GOLDcriteria), in stable clinical(at least 04weekks far away from exacerbatio), were includ prospectively in this study. The patients have a median age of 67 years, an average weight of 69.5kg, and an average hight of 1m70. The patients were devide on two groups: with HTA (n:35) and without HTA (n:59). The levels of circulating CRP, Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNFalpha) and interleukin(IL-6) were determined for both groups. Results: The results showed that circulating biomarkers of inflammation were higher in the groupe of COPD patients reached by HTA. The rate of CRP of patients with COPD-HTA was 8.79 g/l± 11.01 and IL6: 79.12 pg/ml ± 42.19 VS 37.99 pg/ml ±23.79. Circulating cytokines significantly correlated to hypertension in COPD, in particular IL-6. Conclusion: These results confirm association between HTA and chronic inflammation of COPD. Moreover, they provide evidence that systemic inflammation, particularly circulating cytokine (IL-6), is strongly associated with the physiopathology of atherosclerotic remodeling in COPD patients. Appears of hypertension seems to be favored by the presence of COPD. COPD is a potential risk factor for the onset of hypertension. Keywords: Inflammation, COPD, hypertension, TNFα, IL-6.
