Occupational respiratory diseases in Ukraine.

Background: To investigate the level of occupational diseases of the respiratory organs in Ukraine, to propose preventive measures for their prevention. Methods: Data from the Pension Fund of Ukraine and the Center for the Treatment of Occupational Diseases in Dnipro were studied. In the structure of occupational diseases in Ukraine, respiratory diseases account for 45-80% of all diseases, in 2019, 1,145 patients with pneumoconiosis, chronic bronchitis and COPD, and pulmonary tuberculosis were registered. Over the past 7 years, 327 cases of occupational tuberculosis were registered in Ukraine, which has a share of about 2.0% in the structure of the total occupational morbidity. The distribution by gender determined that the composition was dominated by men, the average age of men was 45.7±1.03 years, work experience was 15.4±0.75 years, women - 37.4±0.65 and 10.5±0, 46,respectively. The highest incidence rates of occupational tuberculosis and coniotuberculosis were observed in the coal regions. The incidence rate of occupational tuberculosis reached 1.41-3.34 per 100,000 workers. Since 2015, the incidence of occupational TB has tended to decrease, but the number of respiratory tuberculosis (67.6% of all cases) among medical workers has increased. Conclusion: the number of occupational respiratory diseases has increased in Ukraine. There is a high level of tuberculosis and coniotuberculosis of respiratory organs, including among medical workers, which requires early specific diagnosis and control over the use of personal protective equipment. Each case of the disease is characterized by long duration, severity of consequences for patients (medical and psychosocial), has significant economic losses for society.
