Effectiveness of mepolizumab on severe asthma in Argentina: a real-world cohort study

Introduction: Despite advancements in treatment, many patients with severe asthma (SA) continue to experience uncontrolled symptoms and exacerbations, presenting a considerable healthcare challenge. Real-world effectiveness of mepolizumab as add-on therapy for SA has been demonstrated in different studies, mainly in North America and Europe. Objective: To compare proportions of asthma exacerbations 12 months pre/post mepolizumab treatment in patients with SA in Argentina. Methods: This mepolizumab effectiveness study (NEST Argentina) was a multicentre cohort study in Argentina that included adults with SA newly prescribed mepolizumab in clinical practice. This study includes data from patients with ≥1 dose mepolizumab 100mg and complete and monitored data 12 months pre and post initiation from 10 sites from June 12, 2023 until July 14, 2023. Results: Of 90 participants (mean age 58 years; 55.5% female), 78.5% experienced exacerbations in the 12 months pre mepolizumab initiation compared to 30.2% post mepolizumab initiation. A total of 69.8% of patients were exacerbation-free 12 months post mepolizumab initiation, demonstrating a significant reduction (Table). Conclusion: This study supports the real-world effectiveness of mepolizumab in patients with SA in Argentina. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA3930/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
