Effects of Group Size, Choice and Membership in Group Assignments Aimed At Developing Student Employability

Graduate employability is high on the agenda of UK universities. In Computer Science degrees, teamwork is an essential employability skill to develop. Group and authentic assignments can help students develop their teamwork. However, there is no consensus on the best group size, choice and membership for students in such assignments. This poster represents a reflection on experience in trying out different size, choice and membership approaches over four years of running an introductory undergraduate Software Engineering course in the School of Informatics of the University of Edinburgh. Findings revealed the absence of a perfect approach and the need to base decisions on course priorities.
