Nurse led telehealth interventions in COPD patients
Introduction: COPD exacerbations are among the main causes of increased hospital admissions and decreased quality of life for patients. Self management in patients with COPD is crucial for the management of treatment. Telehealth interventions are becoming increasingly important and widespread to improve self management in patients with chronic diseases. There is a need to see the effects of telehealth practices led by the nurse who spends the most time with the patient and knows the patient closely. Aim: The aim of this study is to review the literature on nurse led telehealth interventions, including telephone follow-up and coaching, in COPD patients and to determine their effects on patients. Method: CINAHL, Medline, ScienceDirect and TR Dizin databases were searched with the keywords "COPD and nurse-led and telehealth or telenursing " and related terms without date limitation. Results: A total of 5 studies were reviewed in line with the study objectives and criteria. Findings show that nurse led telehealth interventions exhibit positive outcomes such as cost-effectiveness, exacerbation prevention and improved well-being among patients. There are also results that participants made efforts to be more active as a result of the interventions, developed positive behavioral changes, but there was no change in their quality of life. Conclusion: The positive results of the studies suggest that nurse led telehealth interventions are efficient. However, it is thought that more nurse led studies are needed to reach clearer results.
