Characteristics of patients with COPD treated with Budesonide/Glycopyrronium/Formoterol in the real world; The RECORD Study

RECORD is an observational single arm cohort study investigating effectiveness of Budesonide/Glycopyrronium/Formoterol (BGF) therapy in COPD patients (pts) from Germany and United Kingdom over 12 months. 555 COPD pts enrolled from March 2022 – June 2023 after initiating BGF according to label. Characteristics and outcomes are assessed at baseline (BGF initiation), month 1,3,6 and 12 after BGF initiation. Herein we describe demographics, clinical characteristics and reason for BGF treatmentat baseline. Overall, 43.4% of pts were female, mean age was 65.4 (SD 10.1) years; 33.5% of the pts had a BMI ≥30 kg/m2. 46.1% were current smokers with mean 33.8 (SD 17.4) packyears (44.7% ex-smokers with 34.5 (SD 21.6) packyears). 67.9% and 31.9% had moderate or severe COPD, respectively. Mean %predicted FEV1 was 56.2 (SD 18.5, n=314), mean FEV1/FVC ratio was 0.65 (SD 0.20. In the 12 months prior study entry, moderate exacerbations (requiring OCS or antibiotics or both) or severe exacerbations (requiring ER visit or hospitalisation) were reported by 35.1% and 6.1% of pts, respectively. Comorbidities were present in 434 (78.2%) pts, most commonly hypertension (249, 44.9%), hypercholesterolaemia (99, 17.8%), type I/II diabetes (78, 14.1%), asthma (61, 11.0%). The most frequent reasons for initiating BGF were ongoing symptoms (42.3%; most frequently dyspnoea [35.5%], cough [24.3%]) and reduced lung function (34.6%). The most common prior treatment was LABA/LAMA (59.8%). The main reason for initiating BGF in the RECORD COPD population was ongoing symptoms despite inhaled therapy, indicating the unmet need of pts with moderate/severe COPD. Study funded by AstraZeneca
