The long term responsivess of the S3NIV questionnaire in patients with home mechanical ventilation

Introduction: The S3NIV is a simple and valid questionnaire that assesses respiratory symptoms, sleep, and side effects in patients under home mechanical ventilation (HMV). Objective: To evaluate the long-term responsiveness of the S3NIV score. Methods: A prospective study with patients under HMV who had answered the S3NIV questionnaire at baseline, 6 and 12 months was made. The total score and the 2 subscores "Respiratory Symptoms" and "Sleep and Side Effects" were evaluated. They range between 0 and 10 points, with the highest value corresponding to the lowest impact of the disease and treatment. The Friedman and Wilconx tests were used and p<0.05 results were considered statistically significant. Results: The study included 100 patients described in Figure1. In the first 6 months, the number of hospitalizations and exacerbations due to respiratory pathology were higher than in the second period, with no significant difference. There was an improvement in daytime PCO2 at 12 months, also with no statistical significance (p=0.067). Regarding the S3NIV, there was an improvement in the total score, with a statistical difference (7.05 vs.7.38, p<0.05). There was also an increase in the scores of the subscores, but without statistical significance. Conclusion: Over 12 months under HMV, there was an improvement in the total score of the S3NIV representing a reduction in the impact of the disease and treatment. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA5274/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
