Cardiopulmonary exercise test in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease and exercise pulmonary hypertension

Background: Ventilation inefficiency and abnormal gas exchange during exercise are frequently observed in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. However, limited information is available regarding whether patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease (CTEPD) and exercise pulmonary hypertension (ePH) demonstrate the same characteristics. Methods: 36 symptomatic patients with persistent residual perfusion defects by V/Q scintigraphy underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and hemodynamic categorization by right heart catheterization. We then compared patients with and without ePH. The diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension at rest and during exercise was defined according to the ERS guidelines on PH of 2022. Results: Results are summarized in figure 1 and table 1. Conclusions: Patients with CTEPD presenting with or without ePH demonstrated comparable ventilation efficiency and gas exchange parameters. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA5220/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig> <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA5220/F2</object-id><object-id>F2</object-id><object-id>F2</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
