Real life effectiveness of Mepolizumab in a cohort of patiens with severe eosinophilic asthma and nasal polyposis after 6 years of treatment: a single centre study Introduction: Mepolizumab is mostly used in patients with ipereosinophilic uncontrolled asthma. Aim: To describe the efficacy and safety of Mepolizumab in patients with severe eosinophilic asthma and nasal polyposis (CRSwNP)in real life after 6 years Methods and Materials 86 patients with severe eosinophilic asthma have been enrolled (40 females) mean age 62y (range 21-82), identified according to the most recent guidelines. They started Mepolizumab treatment from January 2018 and they were followed up until December 2023. 31 patients (21 females) with mean age of 56.5y (range 22-83) had nasal polyposis (CRSwNP), diagnosed by endoscopic nasal score and a severe SNOT22 (mean 78). 14 patients underwent Functional Endoscopis Sinus Surgery (FESS), but all of them had one or more nasal poliposis relapses. Results: After 6 years it has been demonstrated a statistically significative improvement of SNOT22 (mean 37) after Mepolizumab treatment (p= 0.001). It also has been recorded a reduction of the frequency of nasal poliposis relapses and a nasal symptomatology improvement such as smell, reduction of nasal congestion. No adverse reactions hasbeen recorded during the treatment with Mepolizumab. Conclusions: Mepolizumab improves nasal symptomatology, reduces the frequency of the nasal polyposis relapses.
