Management of obstructive sleep-disordered breathing type 1 in children and adolescent – a french consensus

In 2015, the French Society for Sleep Research and Medicine (SFRMS) provide recommendations on the clinical criteria for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) in children without comorbidity between the age of 3 and 8, on the use of poly(somno)graphy for diagnosis of OSA in children and in adolescents, as well as their management. European recommendations were also published in 2016. These recommendations are not followed fully in practice in France and it would appear necessary to reiterate them. Therefore, SFRMS requested to a group of experts (medical and paramedical specialties were represented) to provide updated recommendations for the management of OSA type 1 (OSA1, most often found in young, non-obese, children with no associated comorbidity, presenting with an ENT obstruction, generally a tonsils and/or adenoids hypertrophy) in children. The experts focused on 4 axes and gave a consensus on clinical diagnosis, sleep examinations, treatment and monitoring of children Any child with OSA1 needs personalised and coordinated management carried out by trained practitioners, working within a local multidisciplinary network. The relative frequency of OSA requires increased awareness and training of practitioners to screen and optimally manage children with OSA. These expert recommendations outline the care pathway for these children (figure 1). <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA1358/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
