Intrathoracic solitary fibrous tumors: about 18 cases

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) are rare mesenchymal tumors. Pleural localization is the most common. The reference treatment remains surgery Retrospective study (2004–2023) on patient operated in the thoracic and cardiovascular surgery department of Ariana. Eighteen patients (9 men–9 women) were collected. Clinical symptoms were dominated by chest pain (12 cases), cough (8 cases). Imaging showed a pleural tissue mass in 12 cases, a solitary pulmonary nodule in 4 cases, and a mediastinal mass in 2 cases. Right-sided localization was the most common (13 cases). Transparietal biopsy was performed in 5 patients. Resection was complete in all cases. Histology concluded a pleural origin in 14 patients and a pulmonary origin in 4 patients, and malignancy in 2 cases. The evolution was marked by the absence of recurrence in the majority of patients. The clinical presentation is not specific. The prognosis depends on the nature and location. Long-term monitoring is necessary to detect recurrences or malignant transformation.
