Comparison of Three Different 22-G Endobronchial Ultrasonography (EBUS) Needles in Terms of Diagnostic Yield
Introduction: Despite many studies comparing needles of different sizes for EBUS-TBNA, few compare needles of the same size but with different characteristics. Our study aims to compare the diagnostic efficiency of widely used needles: Vizishot 2, Olympus 22G; SonoTip, MediGlobe 22G; and EchoTip, Cook 22G. Methods: This prospective study involved 273 patients undergoing EBUS-TBNA by one operator. Pathology results of 106 masses and 301 lymph nodes were evaluated. Additional procedures were conducted if a definitive diagnosis couldn't be made. Ethical committee approved, Funding: University Scientific Research Project Results: Patients' characteristics were similar in all three groups. Sensitivity in needle groups according to the ability to distinguish malignant-benign is shown in Table 1. When EBUS-TBNA results were compared with the definitive diagnosis, it was observed that EBUS-TBNA correctly predicted the diagnosis in 72.2% of cases. Ability to predict definitive diagnosis varied: Olympus 76.3%, Cook 67.8%, and Medi-Globe 71%. The diagnosis percentage was higher in the Cook group in interlobar lymph nodes. Additionally, the lymph nodes sampled in the Cook group were smaller. Concordance with final diagnoses was higher in the Olympus group (Table 2). Conclusion: Though diagnostic yield was statistically similar in all groups, clinical differences were observed. Our study may guide future research. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA766/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
